Investments Pay off for Hudson Baylor

Recent equipment investments are paying dividends for Hudson Baylor.

The Newburgh-based recycling firm used grant funding to upgrade its paper processing equipment at its headquarters location, and the improvements have been rapid and dramatic. Tim Flanagan, Vice President of Operations at Hudson Baylor, states "We're able to process much more than before. For instance, take processed cardboard. Before we were only able to process about 3-4 tons per hour. Now, we're able to process up to 12 tons of cardboard per hour. We now have the ability to process four times as much material in a shorter period of time."

To achieve this performance improvement, Hudson Baylor purchased new processing equipment - conveyors and balers to allow for more effective handling of recycled paper. The company applied for and won a grant through New York State's Environmental Services Unit to help afford the equipment purchase. Critical assistance in navigating the grant application process was provided by the Hudson Valley Technology Development Center

The new equipment provides Hudson Baylor with additional capacity, and has directly led to the firm's growth. The Company's fiber division has grown tenfold over the last five years, as local hauling firms bring their product to Hudson Baylor's Newburgh facilities, rather than incurring the transportation costs of shipping the product to more distant locations.

Hudson Baylor continues to seek additional volumes to feed its continued growth. Says Fiber Division manager John Formisano, "We've grown, and we have much more room to grow. We're always looking for more material to put through our system."

Hudson Baylor focuses exclusively on recycling. The Company performs bottle law, commingled, and fiber recycling from it's headquarters in Newburgh, bottle law and glass recycling in New England, and single stream municipal recycling at its two facilities in the greater Phoenix, Arizona region.
